Jaime Munguia vs. Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (January 11)
Golden Boy Jaime Munguia, 34-7, will make his middleweight debut against Gary O’Sullivan 30-3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Munguia has made some adjustments since his controversial majority decision win over Dennis Hogan which was a much tougher fight for Munguia than expected. Looking to regain some momentum, Munguia has switched trainers from Robert Alcazar to Hall of Famer Erik Morales, prior to his last fight, versus Patrick Allotey, who he stopped in the 4th. Now he is moving up from 154 to 160.
Irish orthodox fighter Gary O’Sullivan has 3 losses, but they all come to quality opponents such as Chris Eubank Jr., David Lemieux and Billy Joe Sanders.
Julian Williams vs. Jeison Rosario (January 18)
Unified champ Julian Williams will make a homecoming defense of his WBA and IBF belts versus 19-1-1 contender Jeison Rosario, who is coming off a split decision win to Jorge Cota. Julian is largely considered the best fighter at 154. The other two belts at 154 are held by Jermell Charlo, who recently recaptured his belt from Tony Harrison in a lively rematch, and Patrick Teixeira (who beat Carlos Adames for the vacant WBO title after Jaime Munguia vacated to move up to middleweight to face Gary O’Sullivan). A unification should be able to be made relatively easily between Williams and Charlo should Williams handle business here. William’s sole loss came to older, bigger twin Jermall Charlo in 2016.
The fight will take place at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA and will air on FOX at 8:00 P.M. Eastern, 5:00 P.m. Pacific.
Danny Garcia vs. Ivan Redkach (January 25)
Danny Garcia was slated to fight Errol Spence Jr. this month, but after his horrific car accident in October, Danny Garcia was left without an opponent. Garcia was last in the ring versus Adrian Granados, where he put together an impressive win, dropping Granados 3 times before finally getting a stoppage in the 7th. Ivan Redkach, although not nearly as tough as Garcia’s opponents of late, has a record of 23-4-1, 18 KOs, and comes in off a huge knockout of Devon Alexander in June 2019. His four losses came to John Molina Jr., Argenis Mendez, Tevin Farmer and Dejan Zlaticanin.
The fight will take place at the Barclay’s in Brooklyn, New York and air on Showtime.
Jarrett Hurd vs. Francisco Santana (January 25)
Jarrett Hurd has been relatively quiet since losing his belts to Julian Williams in May. But Hurd has reemerged, with a new trainer Kay Koroma and is ready to work towards getting his straps back. Hurd will face Francisco Santana, who has a record of 25-7-1, with 12 Kos and is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Abel Ramos (on the Shawn Porter vs Yordenis Ugas undercard).
This fight is on the undercard of the previously mentioned Garcia vs Rekach matchup.
Tevin Farmer vs. Joseph Diaz Jr. (January 30)
There seems to be a little bad blood between IBF junior lightweight champion Tevin Farmer (30-4-1) and Joseph Diaz (30-1). From running up on each other at appearances to twitter words being exchanged, these two have made it clear that they want to fight. So, it makes sense that they start the year settling their differences in the ring. This will be Farmer’s fifth defense of his title.
The fight will take place at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami as a part of Superbowl Week activities and will be on the Demetrius Andrade vs Luke Keeler card.
