Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton Explains Slavery Was a Necessary Evil Because White People Didn’t Want to Build The Country Themselves

You never NEED slaves.

You only have slaves if you don’t want to do something yourself.

It is like saying having a driver is a necessary evil when you yourself have a driver’s license. White people in this country didn’t need slaves, they just didn’t want t do the work themselves.

Which is why this comment didn’t make any sense at all.

Cotton explained that the country has to “study the history of slavery and its role and impact on the development of our country because otherwise we can’t understand our country. He then referenced the Founding Fathers, who according to him, said slavery was “the necessary evil upon which the union was built, but the union was built in a way, as Lincoln said, to put slavery on the course to its ultimate extinction.” His statement predictably sparked major backlash from people online.

The Founding Fathers could have done the work themselves.
