After you are a celebrity, you have this newfound opportunity to make contacts, mix in the right circles, and it is easier than ever before to make a transition to any profession that you like. If you know the entertainment world, you would know that many actresses and actors turned into singers, and vice versa. The same holds for the sportsmen.
We are certain while growing up, the sports professionals listed below aspired to excel in their chosen sport. And kid you not, they realized what they dreamt of.
However, with time, once they acquired a particular following, many acting opportunities came their way.
In the past couple of years, several athletes who excelled and earned a big name for themselves in the sporting world tried their hands at acting. To tell you the truth, many of them got the roles not for their acting prowess but for the name that they have established for themselves in the field of sports.
Of course, for some of them, the transition did seem natural and smooth. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne Johnson are the two big names who have excelled in both the professions. However, for many, the acting world did not work well enough. When they did come in front of the camera, they delivered either cringe-worthy or forgettable appearances.
So, here are a few sportsmen who proved to be horrible actors.
Dennis Rodman
He was a legendary basketball player, but he put his hands in too many different pies. Over the years, Rodman became a cult figure. His intriguing personality is not meant for a bit-part hero.
Of course, he did have a few significant roles, but given the fact that almost all of them were critically planned reveals everything. Joe, an associate educator who works with EduWorldUSA, says that he has always admired Rodman for his time at the field, but to say the least, he is not fit for the big screen.
Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather is now a retired man, but we are confident he must be sitting in his garden, twiddling his thumbs, and pondering what next to spend his millions on.
However, people who have seen his brief yet cringe-worthy acting in the movie, When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story, are certainly hoping that his next venture again is not acting.
Micheal Jordan
Jordan has been one of the most marketed players of all time, and understandably so, he was to bag several movie offers. One of his notable acting appearances has been in Space Jam, where he played himself. Zoe, an associate manager with TrumpLearning, says that she took her kids to watch Space Jam, but in all modesty, Jordan’s performance in this slapstick, silly movie was no slam dunk.
Rick Fox
He has the cool dude attitude, the looks, and the sophistication that we all need in front of the cameras, but he tanked at the big screen.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Fox has a massive filmography accumulated in all these years. It would be wrong to say that all of them have been bad, but the few that were good were precisely because of the kind of roles he was offered, and not his acting prowess.
Dan Marino
Robert, a statistics homework help provider with TAE, says that even though the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective has a cult status, it has nothing for Marino. Dan Marino is a former quarterback player who did create a legacy as a footballer, but all his on-screen performances have fallen fat. Though Jim Carrey’s career as an actor started with Ace Ventura, it did nothing big for Dan Marino and his acting career.
The Undertaker
In the wrestling world, The Undertaker was everyone’s favorite. For decades, he was the permanent fixture in the wrestling circuits. Back then, it was quite predictable that sooner or later, we might see him in movies. He did get the roles, but none of his performances have been any significant or impactful roles. Take Suburban Commando, for instance. Most of his performances have been only a bit-part.
Shaquille O’Neal
Shaquille is undoubtedly a master of many trades. He has more than a few strings to his bow, but he failed to hit the bullseye with his not so powerful acting. He was seen in Kazaam, a fantasy film that was released in 1996. Merrick, an educator, employed with TFTH, says that though Shaquille’s larger than life personality did fit in a genie’s role, it was his acting, which failed. In short, the performance delivered by O’Neal ended up being outright cringeworthy.
Kane
Kane, aka Glenn Thomas Jacobs, a professional wrestler, a politician, businessman, author, and an actor, did try his hand at everything. He spent several decades in the ring, and understandably so did have a few acting gigs come his way. Though Kane has done quite a few films, his most notable picture was See No Evil. Unfortunately, it did nothing big for Kane’s acting career.
