UCLA had an unexpected long battle against Pepperdine in Friday 107-98 win in a triple overtime.
Guards Tyger Campbell and Chris Smith dictated the Bruins offense and dished out a total of 13 assists combined.
Campbell handled Pepperdine’s double-team by splitting through defenders and finding the open man on the backdoor-cut. His vision is vital to head coach Chip Kelly’s success as a floor general in his sophomore year.
Just when the game was shifting in the Bruins favor, Campbell drained three-pointers early in the third overtime and finished with 22 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Smith was the leading scorer securing a double-double as the leading scorer finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
It’s rare to see a team such as Pepperdine take a Pac-12 team to three overtimes.
Pepperdine guard Colby Ross added 33 points but couldn’t finish strong as the Bruins outscored the Waves by 18 points in the third overtime.
