These type of stories happen a lot more than you think.
An athlete who has been a star at every level from peewee league all the way up to college finds out the hard way there are a lot of talented athletes just like him out there. When they go undrafted all of sudden all that attention they use to get fades away and things like this happen.
On the night of the draft, Wood rented an event space at Caesar’s Palace. He invited a few dozen family and friends. “He was so excited at first,” said former UNLV coach Dave Rice. But Wood watched with horror as his name went uncalled in the first round. It wasn’t called in the second round, either.
Somehow, that wasn’t the end of Wood’s misery. “I lost my girlfriend that night, too,” he said. “I dropped her off at the airport after the draft and never saw her again.”
Wood is a rare success story after bouncing around the league for five years, he finally got some playing time and blew up.
He signed a 3-year $41 million deal with Rockets and is currently averaging 27 and 8 while shooting over 50% from the field and from 3.
I am sure that ex-girlfriend has hit him up several times since he got paid.
Hopefully, he has her blocked.
