The “Someone Like Me” Speaker Series 🎙kicked off yesterday with Host Dhani Jones. This five-part interview series showcases some of the voices in endurance, discussing their experiences and thoughts around inclusivity in their respective sports and within the community.
Each interview will be shared on IGTV @ 5pm EST, see below for the schedule:
12/15 – Max Fennell – First Black Pro Triathlete
12/16 – Alison Mariella Désir – Endurance Athlete, Activist, and Mental Health Advocate
12/17 – Chris Mosier – Team USA Transgender Athlete
12/18 – Kionte Storey – USMC Veteran and Adaptive Athlete
12/19 – Diana Karen Mireles – LA-based Marathoner
I spoke with Dhani about the series and he told me he jumped at the opportunity because he initially was an endurance athlete himself.
“When I looked around I was the only person that look like me and I could see the looks I was getting from other people wondering why I was there and not playing basketball or football,” said Jones.
Jones said he looks forward to telling these amazing stories and giving a spotlight to these athletes.
Here is the interview with Max Fennell and you can listen to the whole interview I did with Jones above.
