This sounds like something an NFL team would say.
The question begs which team was it. It isn’t unusual for NFL teams to treat prospects like a piece of meat and because they don’t understand black culture they are normally inappropriate with their questions.
What does having a nose ring have to do with if someone can run the football or not?
Would they ask the same of a white athlete? I highly doubt it.
“I had a team, before I went into the meeting, one of the guys came up to me and was like, ‘Well you’re about to go in with the GM, so, you know, he doesn’t really understand the nose rings and things like that, so you might want to — can you take ’em out or tuck ’em?’ I was like, ‘No.’
“Basically, if you don’t understand it or you don’t like it, then you don’t need to draft me. It wouldn’t be a good choice to draft me. I was just like, ‘If you’re uncomfortable in your work environment, you’re not going to be able to do what you’ve got to do.’”
