After a ban was placed on star track star Sha’Carri Richardson for one month, the expectation from many was that she would still get the chance to head to Tokyo and participate in the 4x100m relay event but that opportunity was taken from her too.
Richardson, who was the gold medal favorite to win the 100m race at the Tokyo Games, tested positive for marijuana and officially had her dreams of glory crushed when the U.S. Track and Field organizers elected to keep her off the 4×100 relay team … despite her month-long suspension prior to the event.
Despite this Sha’Carri seems to be in good spirits and even expected that this would.
“Honestly, that news didn’t bother me because me and my team were realistic, so we kind of figured that they would say that in the first place,” Richardson told TMZ Sports at LAX.
Richardsons reason for smoking weed was due to dealing and coping with the passing of her biological mother which caused her a lot of stress especially since she was preparing for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
I understand the situation that’s going on. So, I’m accepting of it, and I just know what I have to do moving forward in my career.”
The USATF released a statement applauding Richardson’s accountability but still claimed it would be a bad look if she took part in this year’s Olympics.
Some of the notable figures that have spoken out in support of Sha’Carri include Patrick Mahomes, Odell Beckham Jr. and Gabrielle Union.
