Life is about taking chances.
Sometimes it works out for you, sometimes it doesn’t.
Dennis Schroder thought he was going to be able to get $100 million in free agency somewhere. It wasn’t a terrible thought Lonzo Ball got $85 million, so he probably thought at worse someone would match the Lakers offer.
He was wrong and he isn’t even getting $6 million from the Celtics.
It is ok though, maybe next season he will get his $100 million.
I give props to his wife Ellen for standing by his side because you know if she took a lie detector test she would be pissed. There is a big difference between $84 million and $6 million, even if you aren’t all about the money that would cause you to shake your head.
The real question begs who was advising Schroder?
Who was the person that told him he should turn down the $84 million?
Was it his agent? If that is the case he needs to fire the agent because unless you have a guarantee from some team out there, you don’t turn down that type of money when you are the 4th or 5th option on a team. It just wasn’t a smart move, but it leads me to believe it was Schroder himself who decided to turn it down.
He probably asked his wife and she wasn’t honest with him. I am not saying they are going to go hungry, but they have to live in Boston instead of LA and there are no guarantees he will flourish there. He may never see an $84 million contract again in his professional playing career. That is tough, but hopefully in the end it works out for him, I know deep down they are both hurting about this.
Good luck to him in the future.
