In what has to be the weirdest in sports, Bishop Sycamore, an online charter high school in Ohio, has been fired amidst the 58-0 thumping by IMG Academy. This has been confirmed by the schools’ founder, Andre Peterson to Chris Bumbaca of USA Today.
There are also reports from Total Pro Sports, that the players on the team had to rob from grocery stores just to eat. They were also told they would be on Netflix.
The school has been under a lot of scrutiny for lying and duking ESPN into believing they had a ‘number of Division-1 recruits’ despite taking the field and clearly looking like a mishmash of players who shouldn’t even be on the same field as the D1-factory IMG Academy. This was even picked up by the announcers of the nationally televised game, more specifically, Anish Schroff.
“Bishop Sycamore told us they had a number of Division I prospects on their roster,” Shroff said. “To be frank, a lot of that we could not verify.”
I find it very hard to believe that the money ESPN puts into everything they do, they couldn’t have an intern look up more information on Bishop Sycamore, a school no one has heard of. In a tweet responding to Schroff’s statements on-air, a fan responded by saying the fake team from Ohio.
According to streets and former players, the head coach has multiple warrants for his arrest for bouncing a bunch of checks and scamming a church. At least he has more time to hide from the cops.
Maybe he’s right. They did play in a game on Friday and then turned around and played IMG on Sunday. Whatever you may think about this story, they will definitely get a Netflix documentary not for playing football but faking their existence as an actual school.
