Refs might have the hardest jobs in sports.
They have to make real-time calls on things that happen fast. They aren’t perfect, so they obviously won’t get everything right.
That makes fans angry.
Ohio high school football ref Keith Dalton and his crew found out just how angry fans can get.
They officiated a game this last weekend and were locked in a locker room with a vending machine blocking the door after the game. The reason? A controversial call was made earlier between Grove City HS and Central Crossing HS, where a Grove City coach was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after running onto the field.
Dalton says they were going over their performance, and when they tried to leave, they couldn’t because they were barricaded. He also says that it took 3 of them to push the door open so they could get out.
The referee group has filed charges against Grove City, and the school district says they are aware and investigating the matter with the police.
Wild story.
