Rafer Alston on How One of His Childhood Coaches Was Killed By Drug Kingpin Over Bad Coaching

Many remember Rafer Alston during his time in the NBA, from 1999-2010. He spent most of his time with the Rockets and Bucks. He also joined the Raptors, Heat, Magic, and Nets.

In a new interview with VladTV, Alston revealed his days growing up in Queens, NY, during his come-up as a basketball star in the area. One of the coaches he’d known since 5-years-old ended up being a referee and worked in local tournaments sponsored by major drug kingpins in Queens.

Alston added that this coach/ref actually lost his life due to these kingpins. After being “fatally punched” in the temple after making a call in a game, they disagreed with. Thankfully, Alston avoided the issues of the streets in his neighborhood and had a solid NBA career.
