Adam Schefter didn’t apologize.
He said in hindsight that he would have done things differently, but in reality, it doesn’t appear he means that. Schefter was caught up in the Jon Gruden, Washington Football Team, Bruce Allen email scandal. A leaked email from the LA Times showed Schefter sending a whole article to Allen for review.
People called into question Schefter’s integrity and could he really be trusted.
The facts are there are a lot of media people who are shills for the teams and leagues. I am not saying that is Schefter, but you have to understand that these sources don’t come from thin air. They are often cultivated over many years and are coming directly from the team or agents.
Schefter could be considered the #1 NFL Insider in the business, and if you think this is the first and only time he did this, you are naive. This is just the first time he has been caught. He likely will never do it again, but most insiders are very cozy with some very powerful people in sports.
That is why sometimes a story can be slanted because they are doing a favor for someone, and in the future, they will get something in return. Sports media is a dirty game. It is no different than the music industry. It is very shady and cutthroat. Some people will try to end your career because their career is in the toilet.
In 2021, where hot takes and scoops are the difference between a seven-figure salary and being unemployed, some media will do absolutely anything to protect their spot in the business.
You have been warned.
It would be best if you took everything you see and hear with a grain of salt and know there might be a hidden agenda.
