Desean Jackson will be 50 years old and still be able to run a post route past DBs.
It seemed like the Rams were the perfect fit for him.
He made some big plays early in the season but is not out of the rotation, so he has asked for a trade, and the Rams have agreed.
Sean McVay said he and Jackson had a very good conversation and that Jackson won’t play this weekend while his representatives seek a trade.
It appears Jackson believes he should be utilized more, but the Rams disagree.
Jackson has only been targeted 15 times in seven games; by comparison, Cooper Kupp has been targeted 80 times. It should be noted that Jackson is averaging 27 yards a catch when he does get the ball in his hands which has only been 8 times.
In the last two weeks, Jackson has had one catch for six yards. That seemed to be the breaking point for him.
The question begs what team is willing to bring him on and what draft picks are they willing to give up. Green Bay is dealing with some Wide Receivers issues and could use some help.
Tom Brady is always looking to bring in old players and help them get a Super Bowl ring. What about New Orleans? Jamies could surely use a deep threat like Jackson.
It isn’t so much that Jackson doesn’t have anything left in the tank. The question begs if he is just a one-trick pony these days. Can Jackson still run the full route tree, or is he just a deep threat?
I am sure teams will do some research on what actually went down in LA, and if they can get him for cheap, I don’t think he will be out of work for long. It is unusual to see a player want to leave a Super Bowl contender in the middle of the season, but we will have to see how it all works out.
