Baker Mayfield was born in Austin, Texas, so maybe he still has a residency there and votes on the propositions.
Based on his IG post, he is in favor of Proposition A in Austin, which essentially will refund the police after they were recently defunded.
He makes his case on why you should vote for Prop A by showing a graph that points out that Austin has seen a record number of homicides this year and a decrease in police presence. If you just look at the graph without thinking about it, it seems pretty cut and dry.
Less cops, more murders.
Of course, things aren’t cut and dry. A lot of the decrease in the police force had to do with the Coronavirus, and a lot of the uptick in murders has to do with more guns, legal and illegal, flowing into Texas and Austin specifically. Also, crime is up around the country, not just in Austin.
In the interest of fairness, here is what the politicians are saying why you should vote yes on Prop A and why others say you shouldn’t.
If successful, Prop A will:
• Force Austin to immediately hire up between 316 to 680 more police officers this year, which could cost the City $271.5 million to $598.9 million over the next 5 years.
• Require front-line officers to spend at least 35% of their time not responding to 911 calls. If this unfunded mandate passes, the city will have to cut mental health, parks, and other essential services, and potentially lay off firefighters, medics, and 911 call takers. That’s not how to protect public safety.
I don’t know Baker’s political affiliation, maybe someone sent him the graph, and he looked at it, said that sucked, and posted it on his Instagram story without doing any research on his own.
It only takes a few minutes to do the general research of the pros and cons of it. Just know this is MAGA pushed proposition that Bakers is promoting on his social media.
I will say this Browns fans wish he spends more time finding an open Odell Beckham than political issues.
