BSO was the first to report that Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III was involved in a fatal car crash early Tuesday morning in Las Vegas.
Now, we know the details of the crash, and it isn’t good for anyone involved.
Ruggs was behind the wheel, driving his Chevrolet Corvette, when he crashed into a Toyota Rav4 around 3:39 AM. The Toyota caught on fire … and first responders located a deceased person in the SUV.
Ruggs was transported to a local hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries.
Cops tell us the NFL star showed “signs of impairment” at the scene … and they will be charging him with DUI resulting in death.
The cops released a statement breaking down exactly what happened.
This is a serious charge against Ruggs III. He can end up spending 20 years in jail if found guilty of the charge.
In Nevada, it a class B felony to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and thereby cause someone to suffer substantial bodily injury or death. Penalties include two to twenty years in prison, fines ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, and a three-year driver’s license suspension.
NRS 484C.430 states that a driver who is impaired by alcohol or drugs – or who has illegal amounts of alcohol or drugs in their system – commits “DUI causing injury or death” when the driver:
“does any act or neglects any duty imposed by law while driving or in actual physical control of any vehicle on or off the highways of this State, if the act or neglect of duty proximately causes the death of, or substantial bodily harm to, another person[.].”
The Raiders have yet to release a statement. While things have been going well for them on the field, it has been a terrible season for them off the field.
