This is a sad situation for everyone involved.
We have been able to piece together everything that happened before the fatal car crash that left one person dead and Ruggs III looking at serious jail time if convicted (2-20 years in jail).
Ruggs III was spotted at Top Golf in Vegas around midnight.
Here is what happened next.
On Nov. 2, at approximately 3:39 a.m., the LVMPD responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of South Rainbow Boulevard and South Spring Valley Parkway, involving a Chevrolet Corvette and a Toyota Rav4. Responding officers located the Toyota on fire.
Fire department personnel responded and located a deceased victim inside the Toyota. The preliminary investigation indicates the front of the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Toyota.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 22-year-old Henry Ruggs III, remained on scene and showed signs of impairment. He was transported to UMC hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Ruggs will be charged with DUI resulting in death.
There were men on the scene who tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the blaze was too much by that time. There will be some investigation on how the Rav4 caught fire after being rear-ended.
The deceased has not been identified yet, but the Raiders and NFL released statements giving thoughts and prayers to the families involved.
It is unclear if Ruggs III is still in the hospital or police custody.
I will assume his attorney will be releasing a statement in due time. The lesson to be learned here is never drive drunk, always get an Uber or have a designated driver. This is bigger than football. Someone lost their life today that shouldn’t have because of Ruggs III being irresponsible. He will have to live with that for the rest of his life while possibly losing his freedom.
