Taysom Hill continues to get paid big money to be a gadget player.
I am not mad at him, but he can’t even seem to beat out Trevor Siemen for the starting job, but he will get paid a lot more than Trevor if this report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter is true.
New Orleans’ QB Taysom Hill signed a unique four-year, hybrid-type of a contract extension that could be worth anywhere between $40 million and $95 million, depending on the position he plays, and includes $22.5 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.
Taysom Hill’s hybrid deal is unique and unlike other contracts because it pays him a $40 million base salary for the role that he’s currently playing and up to an additional $55 million if he does become the Saints’ starting QB for the next four seasons.
Even if he never becomes the QB, getting $10 million a year to be a gadget player is great money, and the $22.5 million guaranteed is nothing to sneeze at.
There is a chance that Hill will start going forward.
I do think Sean Payton is going to have a long, hard decision to be made about whether or not to make Hill the quarterback going forward. At least he’s a guy who can do things when other things break down. Maybe with a lack of weapons, he’s a guy that can make things happen then Trevor Siemian was able to on this Sunday but a lot to reconsider with three losses for the Saints, who are still in the middle of the playoff race. Hopefully they’ll get Kamara back soon, but this was a tough one to lose in Philadelphia.
Special shout out to Hill’s agent, who stays getting his client PAID. Rumble, young man, Rumble.
