I feel like in the future that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is going to come out and say he was joking or didn’t really mean it. There is no way that Flores would make such an accusation without some sort of proof. Because it is the type of accusation that would destroy his entire case if proven not to be true.
Because of that, I believe Flores, and I certainly believe Ross is not the only owner ever to direct his coach to lose games so they could get a better pick in the draft.
It is harder to tank in NFL, but certainly not impossible.
The bigger issue here is that if proven to be true, Ross has committed a federal crime and could be looking at some legal issues. Amy Dash of The League of Justice explains.
Flores claims Ross offered him $100,000 per loss to intentionally fix Dolphins games so the team would tank and be able to secure a first overall draft pick.
If true, bribery in sporting contests is a federal crime that could carry a hefty fine and up to five years in prison. The accusations alone could prompt a federal investigation. The fact that sports betting has blown up on the national scene and not only are more people staking more money on games lawfully but the NFL has partnerships with betting organizations and is in some respects cut into the profits, makes the bribery allegations even more serious. It’s likely due to the affect such acts could have on the general population, that the accusation attracts the attention of federal investigators, or even possible that Flores approaches them himself if he has evidence in his possession.
No one exactly knows what evidence Flores has, but his lawyers confirmed they have physical and digital evidence to back up his claims.
Here is how Flores said the conversation went down with Ross.
“(We had) a conversation about not doing as much as we needed to do to win football games,” Flores recalled. “(Ross said), ‘Take a flight, go on vacation. I’ll give you $100,000 per loss.’ Those are just his exact words. … To disrespect the game that way, trust was lost, and there were certainly some strained relationships.”
The NFL immediately went after Flores’ credibility instead of saying they would do a thorough investigation.
I speak about why they did that here.

I can’t wait to see what evidence Flores has and if other coaches will come out in support. Hue Jackson and Marvin Lewis have already spoken out on their experiences as well.
