Deshaun Watson not facing criminal charges for sexual misconduct angered a lot of people. Particularly women.
Add on that he then signed a $230 fully guaranteed contract and that angered even more people especially since the contract is structured in a way that if he is suspended he will less than a million dollars.
The latest to ridicule him and his new contract is ESPN’s Sarah Spain.
Spain tweeted out how the Browns reportedly wanted an adult in the the room to lead them but then went with a guy who is facing 22 allegations of sexual assault and harassment. She didn’t stop there.
She continued to say some people are ignoring the facts in the case and said the conspiracy theorist sound dumb thinking that 20+ women were hired by the team because they were mad at Watson.
The Browns have a press conference scheduled today and it will be interesting to see how the local media handles the situation.
Rusty Hardin, Watson’s attorney, said in a statement that he was “thrilled” by the news.
“We’ve known all along what people who learn the facts also know — Deshaun committed no crimes. In fact, two separate grand juries have now found that there wasn’t even probable cause to believe he committed a crime.”
He added: “It is time to let the civil litigation proceed at a normal pace and for Deshaun Watson to take his place as the quarterback of the future for the Browns. I am fully confident that the Cleveland community will discover that Deshaun Watson is not just a great quarterback but also an incredibly decent person they will be proud to have represent their city.”
It was a long tirade from Spain into Watson and his new contract and she probably won’t be the last to do so.
It is a very nuanced conversation that a lot of people aren’t ready to have. I think the one thing people are forgetting is that this isn’t a case where one person is saying something happened and another person is saying it didn’t. It is a case where Watson fully acknowledges the activities that he was doing but stated that all the women didn’t have any problems with it. At that point you have to ask yourself is it possible that 22 women consensually had some sort of unprofessional activities with Watson during massages and were ok with it.
