The reason why other teams didn’t pay more for Davante Adams has been revealed, according to a report via Tom Pelissero. It’s simple. Davante Adams only wanted to go to Vegas. There was nothing other teams could do since Davante wanted to head to Las Vegas.
According to TPS:
You’d have to think there would be a wide receiver-needy team out there willing to give up a couple of better picks than what the Raiders offered…And there may have been! But, according to reports, it didn’t matter, because Adams only wanted to go to Vegas.
As NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero pointed out, any team could have signed Adams to an offer sheet and given up two first-rounders if the Packers didn’t match it. But it was the Raiders or bust for Adams, and they were able to get away with paying a little less.
The Packers’ loss is not the Raiders’ gain. They’re the latest AFC West team to make a giant splash this offseason.
The Packers could have played hardball but decided to give Adams, who has been nothing but professional with them, what they wanted. Surprisingly, they didn’t try to squeeze at least one more pick or maybe a player out of the Raiders. It seems to me that the Packers believe that Aaron Rodgers should be credited with Adams’ success more than Adams should be credited with helping Rodgers stay at an MVP level. We won’t know which one is true until the season starts. The Packers will likely draft a WR and pick up one in free agency, but none will be what Adams has been the last few years.
This will put even more pressure on Rodgers to perform after signing his massive new deal with the team.
