It’s so weird and dangerous that cops are sent to serve eviction notices. That’s the only place a person and possibly their family has to stay and if they’re getting evicted they’ve obviously fallen on hard times so they don’t want to leave.
Adding in cops who don’t always handle things in the best ways just makes things more dangerous.
Just how dangerous has been proven recently.
Yan Li, a 47 year old Californian woman was fatally shot by cops after she stabbed one during them serving an eviction notice according to VladTV.
The bodycam footage picks up with the officer approaching the woman, 47-year-old Yan Li’s condo on March 3 to serve an eviction notice. When Li answers the door she is seen holding a knife and is visibly angered by the cops’ presence.
After initially being closed out, deputies forced their way into Li’s apartment in an effort to detain her following reports of her threatening building management and other residents with a knife. A struggle ensued inside the residence that spilled into the hall that left one officer wounded. Deputies subsequently opened fire on Li, killing her at the scene.
There has to be a better way to do this.
“Here’s a notice to evict,” Bunch tells the woman, who is seen holding a large knife at her side, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.
“Put the knife down right now or I’m gonna f—- shoot!” the deputy yells as he draws his service weapon. “Put the knife down. Put the f—- knife down!”
The resident yells back: “How could I know you are not intruder?”
As he points his gun at the woman, Bunch continues to order her to put down her weapon.
“Put the gun down, ma’am, I’m gonna shoot you! Put the f—- gun down,” he yells as she accuses him of being a fake cop, asks where his badge is, throws the papers on the ground and slams the door.
