This is very sad.
There were reports that Dwayne Haskins was estranged from his family, and some of that had to do with his marriage to Kalabrya. Today, we have confirmation from Brandy L. Sims, who got a text from Haskins Sr. explaining why they wouldn’t be at the celebration of life service in Pittsburgh.
I just got a text from Dwayne Haskins’s father. The family will not be attending the funeral service in Pittsburgh today. “We have never met or spoken to the wife, and we didn’t want our son’s funeral service to be the place we met her for the first time,” says Dwayne Haskins’s parents.
Haskins and Kalabrya’s relationship, at least at the beginning, was rocky. They got into an altercation the weekend that he proposed to her in Vegas.
It led to Kalabrya’s arrest.
In July of last year, the wife of the NFL star was arrested after a domestic violence incident at a hotel casino where the two were reportedly renewing their wedding vows.
Gondrezick-Haskins was arrested on July 3 after allegedly causing injuries that were “substantial in nature” to her husband Dwayne, according to a police report, KTNV reported.
An arrest report said that the 24-year-old athlete had a split lip, and cops said they found a piece of tooth in the bedroom.
He reportedly told a security guard at the hotel that “She hit me and cut my lip open,” and the police report said that his mouth looked bruised and “would most certainly require dental work to repair his teeth.”
Those charges were dropped, and some time either after or before that, they were legally married. It appears Haskins’ parents weren’t invited either time, and it doesn’t look like they have had much contact with their son before his tragic passing.
I am sure that is eating them up alive inside. We all have situations with our loved ones where a period of time goes by, and we don’t see eye to eye, but you always assume you will have time to correct that, but in this case, they didn’t.
