Vanessa Bryant wouldn’t let anyone play around with his late husband Kobe Bryant’s brand and legacy. NEVER! Vanessa slammed the Athletic’s reporter Shams Charania for calling Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan the ‘face’ of Kobe Bryant’s Nike line. According to her, no one is the face of Kobe’s Nike line.
TPS has more;
Vanessa Bryant is not happy this week after she slammed Shams Charania of The Athletic on Monday for falsely calling Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan the ‘face’ of Kobe Bryant’s Nike line.
She stressed that the only face of the Nike line is her husband.
Charania had tweeted the breaking news of DeRozan signing a new four-year deal with Nike. He added that the new deal ‘keeps him [DeRozan] as the featured face of Kobe Bryant’s iconic line.’
Kobe’s widow took to Instagram and fired back at his statement. Vanessa calls Charania’s report ‘misinformation.’
“LOVE that he [DeRozan] is a Kobe supporter but the caption is false,” Vanessa wrote. “It’s misinformation. Only Kobe is the face of his line.
“If that changes in the future, then I’m sure Nike and I will release a statement announcing it.”
I don’t think Shams meant anything by it. It is similar to the Jordan Brand. Everyone knows that Jordan will forever be the face of the brand, but you need current players to keep it going. DeMar DeRozan and a ton of these young players wear Kobes in tribute to him and to keep his legacy alive.
You can’t be upset at Vanessa, I can only imagine she is still hurting from the lost of her husband and her daughter. NIKE has struggled with how to continue his legacy, so it is a sensitive subject.
The main thing is that Kobe’s line lives on forever; hopefully that will be the case.
