Lightweight champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis defended his belt against Hector Luis Garcia over the weekend and landed a left-handed hit at the end of the 8th round that would leave Garcia in his corner and earn Davis the TKO win.
Like almost every other fighter is asked after their fight, everyone wants to know what is next for Tank, and the war that everyone wants to see is him vs. Ryan Garcia. It seemed that the war was a lock for sometime later this year, but according to Tank, they still have some work to do to get the fight to happen to say
“If it’s up to me, Ryan’s definitely next,” Davis said. “We somewhat got everything, you know what I mean, going in the right direction. So, we just waiting for Ryan to accept on his side, and let’s get the job done.”
Davis seems to think things are close, though, and the fight will indeed happen.
Here’s to hoping we get the fight because it seems that we haven’t gotten the arguments we deserve lately as fans until it’s too late.
There are a couple of obstacles in its way.
Davis’s future also hinges on the outcome of a criminal trial, set to begin in February, on hit-and-run charges. Prosecutors in Baltimore allege that on Nov. 5, 2020, Davis ran a red light in his Lamborghini and crashed into another vehicle, injuring its four occupants. A judge in that case previously rejected a plea proposal that would have allowed Davis to avoid jail time.
Eleven days before Saturday’s bout, Davis was arrested in Parkland, Fla., and charged with battery, accused of striking a woman on the side of the head. Later, his girlfriend posted on Instagram that she and Davis had an intense argument but that nobody was hurt.
“While the emotions were running high, I made an unnecessary call to law enforcement,” her post read.
Davis pleaded not guilty last week.
Ryan Garcia says he has agreed to all terms.
