The Three Veteran QBs The Jets Are Looking At to Replace Zach Wilson

The New York Jets are telling you exactly how they feel about Zach Wilson, without telling you exactly how they feel about Zach Wilson. Jets head coach Robert Saleh went to bat for Wilson repeatedly during the regular season, saying that he still very much believes in him. However, the words don’t exactly mirror the actions. Especially if the recent reports from TPS hold any truth to them.

According to them, Tony Paulie from ProFootballNetwork stated that multiple Jets players have expressed their desires to either play with Mike White, or another veteran quarterback. Should the latter be the route they go, three veteran quarterbacks are on their radar.

“Sources here in Vegas also tell PFN the Jets have said in conversations they will make a move for one of three veterans: Derek Carr, Jimmy Garappolo, or, yes — Aaron Rodgers. It is interesting that Rodgers is the only quarterback of the three who does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, though the belief is there’s a gentlemen’s agreement he’ll have a say where he’ll be sent when the Packers trade him.”

Any one of those quarterbacks would be an upgrade over Wilson, and in the short term pursuing a QB that has experience leading a team to the playoffs makes too much sense not to consider. The Jets have a young, outstanding defense with a CB duo in Gardner/Reed that’s one of the better tandems in football this season. They have weapons at both WR and RB, matched with an athletic offensive line that’s a problem for defenses when healthy. They have a team that’s ready to win now, if not make a deep playoff run. Saleh would be crazy if he didn’t consider all possibilities.

Jimmy G takes better care of the football compared to Wilson, Aaron Rodgers still has a talented arm, and Carr has the traits. Most may not consider Carr given his history, but keep in mind that he’s never benefitted from having a top defense or consistent offensive line. Rodgers makes the most sense, if you’re able to swing for him. He would put the Jets nearly on par with the Buffalo Bills.

Super Bowl windows vary between teams, and there’s no telling how long the chance will remain open for this team. Take the shot, Saleh.
