Kyrie Irving Says He Felt Disrespected By Nets Because They Didn’t Celebrate His Greatness Enough

If you eliminate all the hot takes and personal feelings, the Kyrie Irving situation is not hard to figure out.

You can go back to when he was with the Cavs, he was someone that you could see was different than your average NBA player which was fine, but it also meant that his reliability and accountability would be shaky. You could make the case that he is the best guard in the NBA when he is on the court. It is just the consistency that is an issue.

No matter where he goes, he has his belief system in place, and regardless if you agree or disagree with them, he isn’t going to budge for anyone.

When it comes to rich, primarily white owners, that can be a problem. While I don’t agree with everything Kyrie says or does, I know he wants to help black people in his heart of hearts. We must remember it is just a game they are playing while real life is happening around them.

I don’t necessarily agree that the Nets disrespected him on all fronts, but there were times that they were over the top with him for standing up for himself.

Here is what Kyrie had to say about going to Mavs.

“I just know I want to be places where I’m celebrated, and not just tolerated or kind of dealt with in a way that doesn’t make me feel respected,” Irving said. “There were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn that I felt very disrespected. I work extremely hard at what I do. No one ever talks about my work ethic, though. Everyone talks about what I’m doing off the floor. I just want to change that narrative and write my own story and just continue to prepare in the gym and now that I’m in Dallas just focus on what I can control.”

He was asked what, specifically, left him feeling disrespected in Brooklyn.

“That’s another day where I can really go into detail about it,” Irving said.

Do you feel Kyrie has a right to feel disrespected?
