The case of Saints running back Alvin Kamara has finally reached its highly anticipated conclusion. Saints fans, and invested fantasy football players, have been waiting on pins and needles for this news to drop for months. Las Vegas news reported David Charns finally dropped the goods, and it’s news that I believe to be the best case scenario for both he and the Saints franchise.
According to Charns, Kamara had struck a plea deal. In exchange for having his felony charge dropped, the running back pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace. Charns broke the news officially on Twitter:
“New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara agrees to plead no contest to misdemeanor charge of breach of peace for Las Vegas nightclub beating. He will have to do community service and pay $100K to victim for medical bills. The NFL has never commented. Misdemeanor vs. felony is a big factor in possible consequences.”
To be accurate, Kamara, 27, will have to complete 30 hours of community service and pay $105,196.17 in restitution to Darnell Greene. Additionally, Kamara will also be fined $500. Kamara remains subject to potential discipline by the NFL under the league’s personal-conduct policy. Since the charges dropped to a misdemeanor, the amount of time can be anywhere from 4 to 6 games.
The National Football League released a statement regarding Kamara’s case:
“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review.”
Kamara was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with victim Darnell Greene at a nightclub during the 2022 Pro Bowl weekend, along with NFL cornerback Chris Lammons and two other men. Kamara just completed his sixth season in the NFL with the Saints, who selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The RB is a five-time Pro Bowler with 8,888 career scrimmage yards and 71 total touchdowns.
Saying that he’s a key piece to the Saints’ overall success this upcoming season would be an understatement, but head coach Dennis Allen and the Saints have done their due diligence in preparing for worst case scenario. They signed former Lions RB – and 2022 rushing touchdowns leader – Jamaal Williams to a 3-year deal, and drafted TCU RB Kendre Miller in the 3rd-round.
