Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor is now allowed to seek trade after the team gave him permission to do so. And according to sources, some teams are already thinking as to whether to put in their offers or not.
Also, the Colts are reportedly “seeking a first-round pick — or package of picks that equates to as much — in a potential Jonathan Taylor trade.”
It appears as though the Indianapolis Colts are willing to meet Jonathan Taylor’s trade request.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Indianapolis has given the 2021 rushing champion “permission to seek a trade.” ESPN’s Stephen Holder added that the Colts are eyeing a first-round draft choice or else a “package of picks that equates to as much” for Taylor.
The 24-year-old Taylor requested a trade from the Colts back on July 29 following a meeting with team owner Jim Irsay, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted at the time. Taylor is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is eligible to hit the free agent market next year.
It’s been a tough offseason for running backs, to say the very least. 2022 Rushing champion Josh Jacobs (Las Vegas Raiders) and fellow star RBs Tony Pollard (Dallas Cowboys) and Saquon Barkley (New York Giants) were assigned the franchise tags by their respective teams but never came to terms on multi-year extensions.
Four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook was on the free agent market for two months before finally signing with the New York Jets last week. Two-time rushing champion Ezekiel Elliott was released by the Dallas Cowboys in March and only signed with the Patriots last week as well.
Taylor led the NFL in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18) in 2021. Despite missing six games last year, he rushed for 861 yards and four touchdowns.
According to reports, the asking price for Jonathan Taylor is massive and that is why teams are trying to offer what would be a fair deal. Now that Taylor is free to seek a trade, where do you think he wants to head?
