Phoenix Suns player Kevin Durant will be honored by the Golden State Warriors, according to general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. Kevin Durant joined the Brooklyn Nets four years after leaving the Golden State Warriors, but the star forward has yet to play in front of those supporters.
Durant hasn’t had a chance to have a warm welcome back from the team he won two Finals MVP awards with since the epidemic kept spectators away from arenas for a lot of that period, and he’s been struggling with a number of ailments.
Mike Dunleavy talks about honoring Kevin Durant
Newly hired general manager Mike Dunleavy announced that the organization aims to properly honor Durant on that night, when the Warriors are scheduled to visit the Phoenix Suns on opening night of the 2023–24 NBA season.
On 95.7 Game, he said the following: “I think the combo of him returning and us opening against a formidable opponent should make the building pretty electric,”
“We gotta figure out a way to appropriately honor Kevin. He hasn’t actually played in Chase Center since departing. I know it’s been a while, but anytime great players like that who have given up so much to the franchise come back, you gotta figure out a way to honor them. We’ll do that appropriately.”
The legendary forward won back-to-back Finals MVP titles in 2017 and 2018, as well as helping the Warriors advance to the Finals once again in 2019, before suffering an injury against the Toronto Raptors. Durant will forever be remembered as a significant figure in Warriors history.
