Williams has been taken off life support, according to a report from WIVB4 in Buffalo via the New York Post. Williams is well-known for his time spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills.
Williams’ situation became murky after he was initially declared dead by Buffalo’s Spectrum News. It took the Tampa Bay Times nearly a day to make it clear that Williams was still alive despite the fact that there had been a construction mishap.
In a recent update, Tierney Lyle, the mother of 36-year-old former NFL star Williams’ 8-year-old daughter, said that Williams was awake and had been taken off life support on Thursday.
Recovery for Williams is a long road now
Williams still has a long road to recovery despite the encouraging outcome, and Lyle has asked for prayers and support to continue. After a labor mishap on August 21 at a construction site in Hillsborough County, Florida, in which a steel beam fell on his head, Williams’ health took a bad turn and he was admitted to the hospital on September 1.
Williams was put on a ventilator and later put into a coma as a result of complications from the incident, which was initially not thought to be fatal.
Williams career at a glance
Williams, a native of Buffalo who attended Syracuse University, started his NFL career on a bright note when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He led the Buccaneers in receiving yards with 964 during his standout rookie season, and he also scored 11 touchdowns.
Williams continued to perform well in 2012, finishing with 996 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. Nevertheless, he was ultimately moved to his hometown team, the Buffalo Bills, where he played for one season in return for a sixth-round pick.
With Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison, Williams has the second-most touchdowns in Syracuse University history with 20 scores.
