The wide receiver group for the Patriots was shaky to begin with, and now their biggest free agency signing has a gloomy future. According to NBC Sports Boston’s report by NFL expert Albert Breer, recently signed free agent JuJu Smith-Schuster could prove to be a huge risk. Breer said
“JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee is a mess. That thing could explode at any point. And so you almost have to keep an extra receiver because of that,”
Greg Beddard added when asked how many quality receivers are there in Packers
“If JuJu is healthy, they have three: JuJu, DeVante Parker, and Kendrick Bourne. They really like Demario Douglas, they really like Kayshon Boutte. Tyquan Thornton, I don’t know if he’s going to have to go on IR or not, but I think they keep six as of ” “You lose one of the top three and all of a sudden, two rookies and a second-round pick who hasn’t played or practiced at all is in there,”
After spending five years with the Steelers and one year with the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster, 26, inked a three-year, $25.5 million contract with the Patriots this offseason.
In 2018, the wide receiver had his best season, hauling in 111 passes for 1,426 yards and seven scores.
During the offseason, the Patriots made the decision to permit Jakobi Meyers to sign a three-year, $33 million contract with the Raiders.

Smith-Schuster has struggled with knee issues since 2019, and in 2021 he sustained a right shoulder ailment that forced him to miss 12 games. With 933 yards, he has the second-most receiving yards on the Chiefs’ roster, only behind Travis Kelce.
The Patriots just claimed former Panthers quarterback Matt Corral via waivers to contend for the backup position while Mac Jones leads the offense in his third season.
