The Houston Texans are interested in Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson because he has already shown that he can match up well against his opponents.
The Houston Texans are currently getting ready to face Anthony Richardson for the first time as an AFC South foe. Richardson will present difficulties at NRG Stadium on Sunday, but coach DeMeco Ryans is fully aware of this. Ryans said,
“He can sling the football – does a really good job there,” “I think he’s a young kid who shows a lot of potential and we have to be on our ‘A-game. He does a really good job of creating plays on the move, he can get out of the pocket, and scramble. He’s a very big, strong guy.”
Richardson has been impressive since his debut
Richardson’s second game in the NFL will be against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 for the Houston Texans.
Despite Richardson having a strong debut, the Colts lost their season opener 31-21 against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium. In total, he completed 64.8 percent of his throws for 241 yards and two touchdowns to win the game. Early in the second quarter, he ran two yards to the end zone using his legs.
Richardson demonstrated the talent that led the Texans to invite the former Florida prospect to an educational meeting at the NFL Combine. The March meeting involved general manager Nick Caserio. It was held so that the Texans could get to know Richardson better as a person.
Can C.J. Stroud put a stop to Anthony Richardson ?
Richardson won’t be slowed down by C.J. Stroud’s actions. But Stroud is aware of what makes Richardson a challenging opponent because he has been one of his peers since high school. Stroud said
“All of the physical traits pop out, but to me, he can sling the ball around,” “He really has a great deep ball, he’s very accurate in the RPO game. He drives the ball really well, and of course, he’s very athletic and he’s hard to bring down. He’s built in a lab, so you’ve really got to be on your ‘A-game,’ because he’s going to bring it every time.”
With 2,549 passing yards and 17 touchdowns for the Florida Gators in 2022, Richardson personifies the modern dual-threat quarterback. He ran for 654 yards and nine touchdowns as well.
His first-year experience is a long cry from Lamar Jackson’s MVP-caliber performance against the Houston Texans in their Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Ryans, though, thinks that their season opening provided his defense with the playbook on how to stop a quarterback who can outmuscle defenses with his arms and athleticism.
Ryans claimed that while adhering to the foundations and guidelines of their defence, it will take numerous players to knock Richardson down each time he enters the field at NRG Stadium.
Houston’s first victory of the 2023 season will come if it can slow Richardson down. However, the Texans will have the opportunity to start the next chapter of their divisional rivalry against Indianapolis on a successful note if they win against the Colts.
