They were both characters in the Cowboys‘ glitzy, turbulent 1990s drama—possibly the Bulls’ and other Big Four American sports teams’ most fruitful decade.
Deion Sanders, a cornerback who is now in the Hall of Fame, played for Dallas from 1995 to 1999 and made four trips in the Pro Bowl. From 1992 until 1996, Ed Werder, a well-known beat reporter, covered the Cowboys for The Dallas Morning News.
Now, over thirty years later, the two characters met again on a Saturday afternoon. After orchestrating a dramatic 45-42 upset over No. 17 TCU to open 2023, Sanders is suddenly the coach at Colorado and the talk of the American sports world. Conversely, Werder is beginning the sixth year of his second employment with ESPN.
Conversation between Sanders and Werder
Sanders reportedly recognized Werder from their shared tenures in the postgame press conference and addressed him: “Do you believe ? “
Werder replied : “In what ? ”
Sanders remarked, appearing to dismiss the seasoned reporter with a shrug : “He doesn’t believe . Next question ”

Next Saturday, when Colorado hosts Nebraska, Sanders—who excitedly told reporters he “keeps receipts” following the Buffaloes’ victory—will have the opportunity to gain over more followers.
