The Rams are still making payments on a Super Bowl victory from two years ago. It makes sensible to keep an eye on the chance that one of their major assets will be on the market if 2024 gets off to a difficult start.
Aaron Donald, a defensive tackle, is beginning the second year of a three-year contract. After two years, the contract was made particularly to enable a retirement or possibly a trade.
The trade may theoretically take place in the second year. Examine the timetable. from Seattle. Los Angeles. within Cincinnati. within Indianapolis. Philadelphia. Arizona. from Dallas.
Will Donald be available to to other teams?
The deadline for any trades is the Tuesday after the contest versus the Cowboys. Will Donald be available to a contender that calls if the Rams are 2-6 at that point? Why not trade Donald if the appropriate offer comes in at the deadline if the Rams are already planning on him retiring or being traded after the second half of the 2023 season?
What Donald would desire will determine a lot of things. In part because he wanted to win another Super Bowl, he didn’t retire after winning one. Why not go to a team that is (1) in the running, (2) wants Donald, and (3) would become an even better contender with him if it isn’t going to happen with the Rams?
Assuming he’s available, The Rams’ ability to win one or more of the games in the first eight weeks that appear to be impending losses will be the starting point of that study.
