The Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, are once again in first place in the AFC West.
However, the offense isn’t shining as brightly as it usually does, and Mahomes is taking the fall for that, especially for his wide receiver group’s underwhelming performance.
Through four games, Mahomes has passed for 1,006 yards, ranking 10th in the NFL, and eight touchdowns, tied for fifth, while averaging a career-low 251.5 yards per game.
However, the Chiefs’ typically excellent offensive is still third in yards and tenth in points scored, so at 3-1 and in first place in the AFC West, there isn’t anything to worry about. Mahomes said
“I just haven’t played very good to start the season,”
“so I think if I start playing better, everybody will start playing better.”
Chiefs attack looking weak
However, the Chiefs’ attack hasn’t looked very strong and is only scoring 20 points per game when they aren’t facing the winless Chicago Bears.
Close end Travis Kelce leads the team in receiving with 17 catches despite missing a game.
With 10 catches for 90 yards, rookie Rashee Rice is the lone wide receiver with double-digit receptions. Kadarius Toney (nine receptions for 57 yards), Skyy Moore (7/112), Justin Watson (8/163), and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (6/104) all have talent, but nothing has really connected since the team’s Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, which was marred by numerous dropped passes, including several by Toney.
