After Trading for the 49ERS, the Washington Commanders Coaches Says Chase Young Was “Undisciplined”

As is typical for all professional sports clubs, all the negative information about a player seems to surface very quickly after they are traded.

Only a few hours after trading Montez Sweat, the Washington Commanders dealt Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers. Chase Young was purchased by the 49ers from the Commanders in exchange for a third-round NFL Draft pick in 2024. Following the news, negative things from his old job began to surface.

People in the Commanders chastised the star edge rusher for prioritizing style over substance, according to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“Young, according to several Commanders coaches and other organizational sources, was viewed as an undisciplined player who developed bad habits such as deviating from assignments in an effort to make splash plays,” Silver wrote.

Young won the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, but after tearing his ACL in the middle of 2021, he hasn’t been the same. Only three games were played by Young last year.

He will soon be joining a 49ers squad that began the season 5-0 and is looking to snap their three-game losing streak. In its first five games, San Francisco was excellent on both sides of the ball, but injuries have changed everything for them currently.

After suffering back-to-back losses, San Francisco gave up 661 passing yards to both Kirk Cousins and Joe Burrow combined. Things won’t get any better when they play the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are also in great form, after their bye week.
