When Antonio Pierce took the bench in front of reporters for the first time as an NFL head coach, he delivered a stirring speech.
Following Josh McDaniels’ dismissal as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday morning, the veteran linebacker—a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion—was named as the team’s temporary head coach. He will aim to win over owner Mark Davis to a permanent position.
The 45-year-old has coached linebackers for the team since 2022. He expressed his desire to field a team that will inspire supporters.
“The Raider pride. The commitment to excellence. And making sure our alumni, our fans, and Raider Nation are proud of what they see on the field,” he said. “We’re tired of losing. It’s not a good feeling. We’re a production-based business.”

In addition, offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi was fired by the Raiders, although Pierce has reassured supporters that everyone who is still with the team is dedicated to making the team successful.
He said, “We’re on the same page.” “The team meeting was excellent.”
For the following nine games, Pierce will serve as the Raiders’ head coach. After the season, Davis has stated that he will conduct a comprehensive search for a new head coach.
