In the end, firing head coach Josh McDaniel and general manager Dave Ziegler was a very expensive choice made by Raiders owner Mark Davis, but it was the right one.
On Wednesday morning, Davis cut his relationship with the general manager and head coach. He then named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach. It will be intriguing to watch how he performs on Sunday in his debut game versus the Giants.
Champ Kelly, who worked as Ziegler’s assistant, has also been promoted to general manager.
After firing Ziegler, Davis, and a few other coaching staff members, Davis is prepared to write some large checks. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the businessman will lose an incredible $85 million as a result of the terminations.
Raiders’ owner Mark Davis demonstrated again this week that he will not let money influence how he operates his franchise: The firings of HC Josh McDaniels, GM Dave Ziegler and some of the coaching staff will cost Davis approximately $85 million.https://t.co/9oOXANFevF

Schefter said
“Some sources around the organization say Davis isn’t worried about money — he’s worried about putting together a winning organization, which is what led to this week’s shakeup, costs be damned,”
The NFL insider further states that following their Monday night loss to the Lions, the owner expressed regret to a few players for “wasting their season.”
The duty of preserving the remainder of the campaign has been given to Pierce. On Sunday afternoon, he will take on the G-Men in his maiden assignment.
