After being arrested for public urination in August in a Senatobia parking space while his mother attended an attorney’s appointment, 11-year-old Mississippi boy Quantavious Eason has been placed on probation and instructed to write a report about Kobe Bryant as his idol – after urinating right in front of their vehicle in Senatobia parking space while on an appointment for another matter.
Mississippi Boy on Probation Ordered to Write About Kobe Bryant Following Public Urination Incident
Moore issued a statement attributing the incident to race. Moore claimed any child would have responded similarly when faced with limited restroom availability near Moore’s office of attorney. Moore underscored that Quantavious didn’t intend to reveal himself; rather he simply needed an area where he could fulfill his urges of having to use the bathroom.
According to reports by NBC News, Moore asserted that had the boy been of another race he wouldn’t have been arrested and prosecuted and sentenced. Moore expressed their relief that there would not be an arrest record against Quantavious due to his admiration of Kobe Bryant; and noted he believed Quantavious should enjoy Christmas season like any other child.

Latonya, Quantavious’ mother, expressed uncertainty as to whether his skin color has had any influence in this incident or actions taken, yet expressed her discontent with how his rights have been handled throughout this process. She stated that her son has endured enough already by being detained, questioned by an officer for probation purposes, and required to write an essay for publication – something most children and even grown-ups would likely do if presented with similar situations.
Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler issued a statement on his department’s Facebook page in August regarding this situation, noting that two officers in question had violated written policies, guidelines, and training protocols. Chandler went on to state that one officer had been fired while another would face sanctions. Furthermore, Senatobia pledged mandatory juvenile training sessions in order to prevent similar events in the future.

Quantavious was not arrested during his encounter with police but admitted feeling threatened during their confrontation. This incident has stirred debate over equal treatment and potential influences of race on police decisions. Quantavious’s probation and assignment of his report serve as an ongoing reminder of racism’s complexity, and of our need for equal and fair treatment by justice systems – even when dealing with minors.
