To Bolster Their Playoff Push, the San Francisco 49ERS Sign a Former NFL Team Captain and Super Bowl Champion

To strengthen their postseason drive, the San Francisco 49ers recruited a seasoned defensive tackle and former Super Bowl champion.

Sebastian Joseph-Day, a defensive tackle, has signed with the 49ers, as originally reported by Jason McCourty of NFL Network. Josina Anderson, an NFL insider for CBS Sports, stated that the 28-year-old will receive a one-year prorated contract.

With general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan in charge, the 49ers have come agonizingly close to winning a Super Bowl championship; Joseph-Day’s championship experience can only be beneficial. The 49ers have dropped their last two NFC Championship Games and were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 54.

Naturally, Joseph-Day was a member of the Los Angeles Rams squad from 2021 that defeated the 49ers in the NFC Championship. The Rams went on to win Super Bowl 56, held in Los Angeles’ home stadium of SoFi Stadium, over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Prior to signing a three-year contract worth $24 million in 2022 free agency to join the Los Angeles Chargers, the Rutgers product played his first four seasons with the Rams.

Just one week before their Week 16 home loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Chargers waived Joseph-Day. With two weeks remaining, the 49ers, who now own the best record in the NFC, welcome Joseph-Day to the squad.

Joseph-Day has accumulated 31 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and 11 sacks over his career.
