Skip Bayless, a well-known critic and Dallas Cowboys fan, is not happy with the team’s decision about Mike McCarthy.
Owner Jerry Jones’ decision to rehire McCarthy for a fifth season as the Cowboys’ head coach was made official on Wednesday. After yet another postseason catastrophe, this time a 48-32 home loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round, many speculated that McCarthy would be fired.
A frustrated Bayless launched into a classic Skip Bayless tirade on today’s episode of FS1’s “Undisputed” show, criticizing the Cowboys for keeping McCarthy.
It was among Bayless’ most irrational outbursts in a long time.
“Here we don’t gooooooooo! And there we went. If possible, I feel even worse today than I felt Sunday night. At least then, I had a metallic silver lining! At least Mike McCarthy was finally gone! Sorry, Cowboy nation. It’s April Fool’s in January when we’ve been made to look like fools for going on 30 Januarys!..
Continuing his tirade, Bayless asserted that the referees’ assistance in the Cowboys’ contentious victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 17 meant that the team effectively lost four of its final five games.
Bayless went on to say that he’s not sure if he should “laugh or cry at” Jones’ remarks on his choice to keep McCarthy on staff.

McCarthy has led Dallas to three consecutive seasons with twelve wins, but his postseason record as their head coach is at 1-3 following Sunday’s loss to the Packers.
However, given that Jason Garrett was head coach of Dallas for ten years despite winning just two postseason games, perhaps we shouldn’t be too shocked by Jones’ choice to retain McCarthy.
