This month marks Luka Doncic‘s 25th birthday, and the Dallas Mavericks star is performing at a level not seen since LeBron James. Star player Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is having a season worthy of an MVP award. He is averaging 34.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 9.4 assists while shooting a career-high 38.0 percent from outside the arc and 49.1 percent overall.

It feels like Doncic is either setting NBA records or accomplishing something we haven’t seen in a long time every time you turn around. This month marks the 25th birthday of the four-time All-NBA First-Team member, who in his brief career has amassed 10,653 points, 3,220 rebounds, and 3,056 assists.
Could Luka Doncic be considered MVP ?
LeBron James is the only other player in NBA history to have reached or surpassed those totals before turning 25. James accomplished this feat despite playing 130 more games than Doncic. Oscar Robertson is the only other player in league history to have played 375 games and match or surpass those totals.

For the most part of the season, Doncic has been disregarded as a serious MVP candidate. However, the Mavs are on a four-game winning run and have a good chance of winning six games before the All-Star break after trading for P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford and having Kyrie Irving recover from a thumb injury.
Given the Mavs’ current 30-23 record, Doncic might emerge as the clear MVP favorite.
