The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of American sports and has created some of the most iconic moments in sports history. Even more of those moments were created on February 12th when the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers battled it out for the Lombardi at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. And one moment that will never be forgotten will be receiving the MVP award after a blockbuster display.
The award is a testament to the players who have risen above the rest to deliver standout performances on the biggest stage. Over the last three years, we’ve seen incredible feats from some of the game’s biggest and brightest stars. But who has won the coveted award in recent years?
2023: Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs
These days, punters can place bets on anything and everything from the comfort of their own home. Interested in Greyhound Racing betting? You’re covered. What about Esports? Yep, even that. But of course, betting on the Super Bowl is hardly news, and this year, the bookies made the Kansas City Chiefs a narrow 11/10 outsider for a second consecutive Lombardi.
Last year, they headed into their clash with the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII as the favorites and they lived up to the billing… but only just. Their dynamic quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the star of the show. Despite opposing QB Jalen Hurts delivering the performance of a lifetime, it was the former Texas Tech star who came out on the winning side and walked away with the MVP award. He managed to orchestrate a second-half comeback in which his Chiefs overturned a ten-point deficit to walk away with the Lombardi courtesy of Harrison Butker’s last-gasp field goal.
Mahomes is known for his powerful arm and ability to make big plays when it matters most. He managed to complete 21 of his 27 pass attempts for 181 yards and three touchdowns. He picked up a further 44 yards on the ground and most importantly, left State Farm Stadium in Arizona with his second Super Bowl ring.

2022: Cooper Kupp – Los Angeles Rams
Cooper Kupp, wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams, stole the show in Super Bowl LVI. In a closely contested match against the Cincinnati Bengals, the former Eastern Washington Eagle’s pivotal plays led the Rams to a 23-20 victory. Kupp finished the game with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds of the game. The result was somewhat harsh on Joe Burrow and his Bengals, who played out of their skin and on another day, may have left SoFi Stadium with a first Lombardi in franchise history. In the end, however, it wasn’t to be, and it was the Rams left celebrating long into the California evening.
2021: Tom Brady – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In 2021, the legendary Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, winning 31-9 in Super Bowl LV. Brady, known for his composure under pressure, threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdown passes were caught by his long-time teammate Rob Gronkowski, with the third going to Antonio Brown. Brady’s performance in Super Bowl LV earned him his fifth and final MVP award, further solidifying his status as the greatest quarterback in NFL history.
