In our previous report, BSO informed our readers about a lawsuit filed by Dak Prescott against an individual and her lawyers. The lawsuit was in response to an alleged attempt to extort $100 million from the NFL quarterback. The case has recently revealed the identity of the person who made the extortion attempt.
Pro Football Talk has the details.
In January, a lawyer sent a letter to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott seeking settlement of a potential claim for sexual assault. Today, Prescott turned the tables, suing the alleged victim and her lawyers for extortion.
The case was filed in Collin County, Texas against Victoria Shores and her attorneys, Bethel T. Zehaie and Yoel T. Zehaie. The 11-page lawsuit includes claims for defamation and slander, defamation per se, civil extortion/duress, business disparagement, tortious interference with current and/or prospective business relations, civil conspiracy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Prescott contends that, on January 16, 2024, the attorneys sent a letter to Prescott alleging that he sexually assaulted Shores in February 2017.
Here is what allegedly happened between Prescott and Shores while they were in an SUV seven years ago.
The letter states that the woman and Prescott became acquainted through her job, and that he invited her to hang out after talking on Snapchat. When the two eventually met up, the letter states Prescott picked the woman up in Plano while accompanied by “two members of [his] entourage” and “a couple additional female friends.”
At some point, the letter included in the filing states, the group allegedly entered a black SUV, and Prescott directed the woman to the back of the vehicle. At that point, the letter alleges, Prescott exposed his genitals.
The letter states that the woman at that point allegedly told Prescott she “did not want to engage in sexual intercourse and made sure to verbalize her wishes.”
The letter further alleges that, upon reaching its destination, the SUV came to a stop and everyone got out of the car except for the woman and Prescott, who allegedly “signaled to one of [his] entourage members to leave” him alone with the woman.
“At this point,” the letter alleges, “you used physical force and sexually assaulted [the woman] by penetrating her vagina against her consent.”
Here is the statement from Prescott’s lawyer.
“Recently, Mr. Prescott found himself the subject of an extortion plot,” McCathern said. “The Defendant and her legal team have threatened to go public with a completely fabricated story of sexual assault from nearly a decade ago, and demanded that Mr. Prescott immediately pay $100 Million in exchange for her not pressing false charges with the authorities.
“Mr. Prescott — a new father to a baby girl — has great empathy for survivors of sexual assault. He fervently believes that all perpetrators of such crimes should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. To be clear, Mr. Prescott has never engaged in any nonconsensual, sexual conduct with anyone. Lies hurt. Especially, malicious lies. We will not allow the Defendant and her legal team to profit from this attempt to extort millions from Mr. Prescott.”
Prescott decided to be proactive with his lawsuit before Mrs. Shores could file a lawsuit against him.
