Diontae Johnson, wide receiver from the Pittsburgh Steelers bids farewell to his first NFL residence. With the trade of cornerback Donte Jackson for Diontae Johnson, the Pittsburgh Steelers bid farewell to their seasoned wide receiver.
Given that Johnson was nearing the conclusion of his contract and that a roster bonus was due at the end of the week, the move was fairly anticipated. The former third-round selection bid farewell to the city where he was drafted and is now officially moving elsewhere. Johnson posted the following on Instagram:
“Pittsburgh it’s been real! 5 years ago you brought me in and treated me like family from day one,”
“I will always be grateful for the memories made and relationships I will forever cherish. To my teammates, coaches, staff, and the fans who were there through the good and bad.. thank you for allowing me to grow into the man I am today. 1️⃣8️⃣ out.”
Johnson played for the Steelers for five years, catching 391 passes for 4,363 yards and twenty-five touchdowns. He was selected for one Pro Bowl and developed into an accomplished player-mentor for guys such as Calvin Austin.
He will now be considered a top option for second-year quarterback Bryce Young of the Panthers.
