For Mike Evans, the top receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it’s the third time lucky.

The two parties reached a new two-year deal worth $52 million on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This is Evans’ third contract with the franchise that selected him seventh overall in the 2014 draft. He was subject to a $23.7 million cap hit in 2023, the year his prior contract expired.
Schefter mentioned that $35 million is promised in the new agreement.
In June 2023, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Evans’ third contract negotiations had started and that both parties were hoping to reach a deal this summer. A deadlock was reached, and Evans said through his agent that he would end contract talks if an agreement could not be reached before Week 1.
At the NFL Combine on February 27, Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht stated to reporters that the franchise wanted to turn Evans into “a Buc for life.” It looks like they were able to resolve the conflict and grant each other’s wishes.
With 1,255 receiving yards to lead the club, Evans played in all 17 games and continued to be at the peak of his game in the previous campaign.
