Russell Wilson, 35, is scheduled to leave the Denver Broncos. Following a disastrous stint in Colorado when he failed to lead the team to the heights the team wanted from him, the management granted Wilson freedom to negotiate with other teams.
On March 13, the first day of the league season, the former Seattle Seahawk will be released once. Therefore, the Broncos will permit him to look for his next club ahead of schedule out of convenience.
The move would ultimately see the Pittsburgh Steelers replace Ben Roethlisberger, with whom he has been closely associated. They have had difficulties in the two years after he departed the company with Kenny Pickett.
But some of that can be attributed to Matt Canada, the offensive coordinator who performed poorly and was removed. The Steelers could improve on a.588 record in 2023 (10-7) when they finished third in the AFC North with Wilson acting as a mentor and removing the young quarterback from the spotlight. Adam Schefter wrote on X,
“Before free agency begins,”
“The Broncos have given soon-to-be-released quarterback, Russell Wilson, permission to immediately begin speaking and meeting with other teams in their home cities, per sources.
“Wilson’s free agency begins now.”
Russell Wilson isn’t a leader. The foolishness that went on in his first year at Denver with a private coach, his own office at the facility, and family at training camp when other players didn’t have those privileges, proved his self centeredness. pic.twitter.com/AVKfiWjdF6

Legend of the Broncos slams Wilson
In 15 games, Wilson completed 297 of his 447 throwing attempts a completion percentage of 66.4%, totaling 3070 yards and 26 touchdowns.
He completed 30 games in Denver orange, accounting for 6594 yards from 930 passing attempts, 589 completions (63.3%), and 42 touchdowns with 20 interceptions and 90 sacks. This was in addition to 2022–2023.
That’s acceptable given his age, but those aren’t the same high standards he established with the Seahawks, who defeated the Broncos in the 2013 Super Bowl. He also didn’t have the same rushing game in Denver.
However, it hasn’t stopped Karl Mecklenburg from criticizing Wilson’s play online. In what appears to be a warning to the Steelers as well, Mecklenburg took to X.com, formerly Twitter, to rage about Wilson’s form. He said,
“Russell Wilson isn’t a leader,” “The foolishness that went on in his first year at Denver with a private coach, his own office at the facility, and family at training camp when other players didn’t have those privileges, proved his self-centeredness.”
