This summer, the Buffalo Bills have lost several difficult defensive players, but one of the cornerstones of the Sean McDermott era is not going anywhere anytime soon.
The Bills are inking All-Pro defensive back Taron Johnson to a three-year, $31 million contract extension, according to reports from Adam Schefter of ESPN. With this move, Johnson becomes the NFL’s highest-paid nickel wide receiver.
On Monday, Schefter tweeted:
“Bills are signing All-Pro DB Taron Johnson to a three-year extension that makes him the NFL’s highest-paid nickel back, per source. He’s tied to Buffalo through the 2027 season,”

Taron Johnson’s journey with Bills so far
Having been selected by the Bills in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL selection, Johnson has established himself as one of the league’s top slot cornerbacks, reinforcing general manager Brandon Beane’s ability to select players in the middle rounds of the selection. During his rookie campaign in Buffalo, Johnson appeared in 11 games and finished with 4 combined tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble, and 3 passes defensed. From then on, everything has been going up.
Johnson was able to start all 17 games despite a couple near-miss injuries, most notably going into concussion protocol more than once this past season. He was named to the 2023 second team All-Pro due to his 98 tackles, 8 passes defensed, and 3 forced fumbles.
