Stefon Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, is set to be traded by the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans in exchange for a draft selection, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
Diggs will cost the Bills $2024 in the sixth round and $2025 in the fifth round; in return, the Bills will receive a 2025 second-round pick (via the Minnesota Vikings). When the Texans sent their 2024 first-round selection to Minnesota last month, they also got that pick from the Vikings.
The deal was made the day after Diggs asked, “You sure?” in response to a social media user who said Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, didn’t need him.
Texans want Stefon Diggs to help them win immediately
The Texans are surrounding quarterback C.J. Stroud with veteran talent this offseason, and this is just their latest win-now move.
Joe Mixon, a running back, was acquired by the Texans last month via trade from the Cincinnati Bengals. He then signed a $27 million, three-year contract deal with the team. They also made a big impact on defense when they signed Danielle Hunter, a highly skilled pass-rusher, to a two-year, $49 million contract that included a $48 million guaranteed clause.
The 30-year-old Diggs joins a potent Texans offense that features Mixon, receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, tight end Dalton Schultz, and quarterback Ryan Stroud, the NFL’s reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Diggs journey with the Bills
During his tenure with the Bills, Diggs not only broke numerous team and league records, but he also became one of only four players in NFL history to record four seasons in a row with 100 or more receptions (the other three being Antonio Brown, Davante Adams, and Marvin Harrison).
The improvement in Allen’s play was matched with his acquisition in 2020 (as part of a trade with the Vikings that also featured the Bills’ first-round pick). Only Patrick Mahomes has more passing touchdowns in that time than Allen, who has the second-best total QBR in the NFL.
Tyreek Hill and Diggs are the only two receivers to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the previous four seasons. Next season, Diggs will play his former team at NRG Stadium when the Texans meet the Bills.
